February is Bipolar Awareness Month
What Is Bipolar Disorder?
Bipolar disorder used to be known as manic depressive disorder or manic depression. It’s a serious mental illness, one that can lead to risky behavior, damaged relationships and careers, and even suicidal tendencies — if it’s not treated.
Bipolar disorder is characterized by extreme changes in mood (poles) — from mania to depression. Between these mood swings, a person with bipolar disorder may experience normal moods.

February is Bipolar Awareness Month
Blogger Atorturedsoul at Being Bipolar: Learning to Live with Bipolar Disorder has a goal to establish the month of February as Bipolar Awareness Month.
“It is imperative that we raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding bipolar disorder in an effort to build a more supportive environment for those who suffer from this illness.
I hope that you will consider participating by either filling out a questionnaire or hosting a banner for the month of February. If you have bipolar disorder or have a friend or loved one who does, please consider filling out a brief questionnaire. Your answers will be used to share the experiences of those suffering from or caring for someone with bipolar disorder. (You can remain anonymous if you wish.) If you would be interested in completing the questionnaire, email beingbipolar@writersbeacon.com.
If you would like to host a banner to help increase awareness and to show your support, please choose one of these sizes and email me for the code.”
The banner is currently on my right sidebar. It installed seamlessly, with a hitch.
I do not have Bipolar Disorder, however, one of my dear friends does.
To support Atorturedsoul’s declaration of February as Bipolar Awareness Month, I filled out a questionnaire. It was a simple, painless procedure. It only took a few minutes to answer the eleven questions and return my responses via e-mail.
In turn, Atorturedsoul has agreed to be interviewed by Recovery Rocks!
