G-d

G-d

After reading an article titled The Source of Evil - Bo   at JewishRecovery.org  by Rabbi Ben A., I asked him why he writes “G-d” without the “o”.

His response (posted with permission):

The simple answer is that so if this article is printed and then gets thrown away, then the word “G-d” is not going to be thrown out with it.

The deeper answer, however, is that by not writing the word in full, we are admitting that what we know of G-d is infinitely insignificant.  We do not know — much less are we able to describe with a word — the true essence of G-d.

Rabbi Ben A.’s bio states he is “the most famous anonymous rabbi.” Using his pen name, Ben A. draws from his personal experience in recovery to incorporate unique chassidic philosophy into the practice of the 12 Steps.

His recovery-related articles from a Jewish perspective are available at the Chadbag.org Knowledge Base.

Thank you, Rabbi Ben A., for answering my question, and granting permission to post your response.
